TERJA FOUNDATION BRIEF HISTORY

TERJA foundation is in honor of Teresa and Jackson Osundwa, both advocates of an equitable education especially that of the girl child. The idea of TERJA Foundation was first suggested in 2013 by one of Terry and Jack’s children, Lynette Injette Ochola, a development professional with over 20 years experience in international development. Together with her siblings, Katherine Muoki, Judith Skeele, Roseline Ingutia, Solomon Osundwa, Nancy Osundwa-Waldrup, Collins Osundwa and Oscar Osundwa and their families, a vision and mission statement was developed. This was the beginning of TERJA Foundation! Some of the activities TERJA has been involved in since inception include

  1. Provision of sanitary pads, soap, food, and other items to more than 500 girls at Lubinu girls and Shitoto girls’ secondary schools in Kenya.
  2. Mentoring and career guidance of secondary school students.
  3. Supporting in the construction of the school hall at Lubinu Girls Secondary school
  4. Supporting local church activities and construction of local church which also serves as a recreation center for young people in the community.
In 2021 TERJA set up its global office in Houston, USA and an Africa office in Nairobi, Kenya. The global office was founded by Dr Judith Ashika Skeele. The objective of TERJA is to help vulnerable communities, children and youth (girls in particular) to improve their living conditions in the long term. This is one of the most efficient investments in social and economic development for communities and countries. TERJA lays great importance on education support. When the quality of life of young people is improved, it is only then that they can consider the problems of their society/community and duly solve them. In March 2021, TERJA launched its flagship project – JNO (Jackson Nyangweso Osundwa) Scholarship Award for needy and promising students at Lubinu Girls Secondary School. This Scholarship is in honor of Jackson Nyangweso Osundwa who valued and was very passionate about education. Mr. Osundwa passed away in 2016, however his legacy lives on through TERJA work.
