About
Lubinu Girls Secondary School
Established in 2009, Lubinu Girls Secondary School is a day and boarding girls’ high school situated in Lubinu, Kakamega County, Kenya. The school was created with an inspiring aim to meet the educational needs of the girls’ education, which is often overlooked in most parts of the African continent. In 2009, the school started with 46 students and currently, there are more than 480 students enrolled. Over the last 12 years, the number of students has increased by tenfold but the capacity to house these students has shrunk.
Problems Faced &
Challenges
Girls enrolled at the school face a plethora of problems, but the biggest issue that they currently face is lack of space. A congested dormitory and overcrowded classrooms affect the quality of life and education for these students. This is further excaberted by the, lack of textbooks, computers, a proper Science Lab, and most importantly, the lack of a proper library where students can find useful books. Students carry out science experiments in a makeshift science lab, which also duplicates as a classroom.
